495,896. Joints in steam boilers. CROMPTON, C. E. July 20, 1937, No. 20119. [Class 123 (ii)] A tube plate C of a tubular boiler is rigidly secured by bolts C1 to a ring E welded to one end of a boiler shell A, and the other tube plate D is secured to an inclined flange A1 at the other end of the shell by a relatively flexible joint. The edge of the plate D is inclined to correspond with the inclined flange, and the bolts F securing the plate pass through elliptical holes in the flange to allow the joint to be made without straining the tubes B between the plates.
