507,120. Gas - purifying processes. BRANDT, R. May 27, 1938, No. 15890. Addition to 490,920. [Class 55 (ii)] The method of removing carbon monoxide from combustible gases, such as coal or coke .oven gas, according to the parent Specification is modified by adding to the initial gas part of the main gas after its subjection to the steam catalysis, so as to allow for the variation of combustible gas produced, in the coke ovens for example. This enables the steam to gas ratio contacting with the catalysts to be kept more easily constant and the converter plant to be uniformly loaded. The addition is particularly necessary during charging and discharging of the ovens. The added gas may be freed of carbon dioxide before admixture and may be added to the initial gas before the latter is purified from hydrogen sulphide. An additional catalyst, differing from the two catalysts of the process of the parent Specification, may be interposed between them or arranged between the two layers of the main catalyst, in order to obtain a refining of benzol hydrocarbons in combustible gasÚs containing them in addition to carbon monoxide. For this purpose, catalysts known for the hydrogenation of tar and oil vapours may be used; molybdenum oxide deposited on active carbon, silica gel, &c. is specified.
