[Class 142 (ii)] Means for setting tuft yarns or pile threads and for threading tube frames are combined in one machine. The setting means is of the form described in Specification 488,098. When a pattern has been set, the yarns are attached to an empty spool which is placed between the rollers 3, 4, 5 and wound. Another empty spool 7 and a tube -frame 16 are then placed in position and the wound spool 85 transferred to spool holders carried by brackets 90, the yarns passing over the empty spool and over the tubes 15 of the tube frame. Threading is performed by needles 17 carried by a bar 20 manually operated by rack-and-pinion through rods 30. After upward movement of the needles through the tubes the yarns are moved laterally by a comb 50 to ensure engagement by the needles. When a loop of the desired length has been drawn through the tubes, downward movement of the needles is arrested and the yarns cut by a sliding knife 51. Movement of.the needles is then continued to draw the severed ends completely through the tubes. The tube frame is held during threading by a jaw 40 closed by a cam surface 47 on the bar 20. According to the Provisional Specification an adaptation of the threading unit is fixed on a bench for use independently of the setting apparatus.
