[Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVII and XXXVIII] Electric battery lamps for use with life-jackets, buoys and other life-saving apparatus comprise a battery container. on which the lamp 6 and glass cover 4 are mounted and a screwed-in extension 15 containing a float 34 which, on immersion of the casing, floats upwards to make contact between the extension and contact 39 in connection with the battery. The casing is mounted at a point above its centre of gravity in a bearing 26 which ensures that it will assume a vertical position with the lamp uppermost. Holes 17, 18 permit the entry of water. The float carries a pin contact 35 having a pigtail connection to the casing; when raised by the incoming water the contact engages the fixed contact 39 which is connected with the battery through a blob of mercury 41, a connection which is effective only when the casing is in the vertical position.
