[Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A magneto torch comprises a spring 3 stressed by rotation conveyed through a clutch 12 and helical gearing from the hand - operated spring - returned lever 15 operated by intermittently gripping the torch and serving through bevel gearing 7 and a train of gears to drive at high speed under the control of a centrifugal brake the armature 10SP1/SP. The brake pad 24 is adjustable from outside the casing so as to give adjustable speeds. When fully stressed the driving train may be held by a brake operated by the external lever 27. Instead of a centrifugal brake an escapement mechanism may be used to control the speed.
