[Class 100 (iii)] Single-type composing and casting machines ; moulds ; matrices.-To enable type to be cast from matrices of different point size in the same diecase, the mould is provided with two adjustable mould-blades A, B, Figs. 4 and 5, operable independently or together, the blade A having a stepped or cut-away corner ASP1/SP, into which the forward end BSP2/SP of the other blade fits. When the upper blade is held in the forward position, type are cast with. a body portion of full point size and a character-bearing portion of less than full point size, as shown in Fig. 8. When the two blades move together, type are cast entirely of full point size, as shown in Fig. 7. The blade B is operated by a lever E controlled by means such as signals in the recordstrips. The die-case may thus contain, for example, both matrices of normal point size and matrices of twice the normal point size. To enable a larger number of the smaller matrices to be used in a fount, the alignment, of the characters on the matrices is made lower than the standard alignment, which is central. A character such as x, Fig. 11, in addition to the character.y, can thereby be accommodated on a small matrix, as shown in Fig. 12. Specifications 8633/99, [Class 100], and 538,828 are referred to.
