[Class 1 (iii)] In the recovery of bromine from gases resulting from the blowing of dilute brominecontaining liquors with air &c. by treating the gases with a constantly circulating alkaline liquor, at least part of the carbon dioxide is removed from the system before the absorption step. This may be effected (1) by acidifying the bromine-containing liquor and blowing it with air to remove carbon dioxide before treating it with an oxidizing agent such as chlorine to liberate the bromine, (2) by precipitating the carbon dioxide as an insoluble carbonate before the solution is oxidized, (3) by removing carbon dioxide from the air used for blowing.
