[Class 72] In apparatus in which safeguarding means for use or in combination with machines for breaking up, opening or working cotton or other fibrous waste or textile material are provided so that ferrous metal &c. frequently found in such material may be removed and so the risk of fire or damage removed, the material is fed by the front part of a lattice between two lifting lattices b, c, into the upper of two inclined shoots 1, 2 arranged at an angle to each other and then into the lower shoot 2 the material being inverted or turned over' and so passed over permanent U-shaped magnets m mounted in the guide plates or walls of such shoots, the purified material passing on to the rear end of the lattice a which delivers it to a breaking roller d. A further set of magnets m may be disposed 'laterally over the lattice a to deal with any metal conveyed with the fibrous mass which is lifted by the lattices b, c.
