[Class 44] [Also in Group VI] A wreck detector comprises a loop of cable 25 carried by the otter boards 17, 18 and having two parts 20, 21 connected by a coupling 1, which consists of a hemispherical member 2 rotatable on a two-part spindle 3 connected to the parts of the cable by eyes 6, 7. If 25 meets an obstruction, the motion of the trawler 13 will be slowed, thereby giving warning of the obstruction. The warp 15 is hauled in, while 14 is paid out, causing a relative movement between 2 and 3 to separate same, whereupon the two parts 4, 5, of 3 can separate. The roller 2 is retained on 4 by a flange 10, and the parts may be reassembled on the trawler. Various forms of connections between 4 and 5 are described.
