570,237. Bomb and projectile fuzes. ASHWORTH, D. R., CHARLES, A., and SMITH METERS, Ltd. March 20, 1943, No. 4579. [Class 9 (i)] The percussion member 12 of an aerial-bomb or like fuze is normally blocked by a ball 20 held in operative position by a pin 22. A spring 25 ejects the pin from the fuze when, prior to dropping the bomb, a retaining-arm 26 is released by the unscrewing (by hand) of a transport-safety screw 34. Return of the pin 22, after incomplete ejection, is prevented by a spring-pressed ball or plunger 42. Accidental firing movement of the member 12 after the ball 20 has been freed is prevented by a light spring 17 and by resilient tongues 36 which may be mounted on the member or interposed between the member and the fixed percussion member (firing-pin or percussion cap). The flash-passage 14 trough the member 12 may be filled will delay composition. Specification 554,235 is referred to.
