Means for the production of pesticidal fumes comprises a safety fuze cord with one or more of the textile yarn coverings around the powder core coated or impregnated with a thermally vaporizable pesticidal compound, e.g., gammabenzene hexachloride or a chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon derivative. The powder core may consist of a black powder composition, preferably sulphur-free, but the term also includes a coherent imperforate extruded core of plastic material such as disclosed and claimed in Specifications 544,252 and 580,409, [both in Group XXI], respectively. The core and one or more of its textile coatings may be coated with a paste comprising the pesticide and an adhesive, or passed through the molten pesticide or through a solution of the pesticide, and then drawn through a die. Reference is made to the application of a paste of china clay, D.D.T. or gamma-benzene hexachloride, glue and water, followed by a countering of cotton and a final coating with a paste of china clay, glue and water. In another example, a composition of red lead, potassium nitrate, silicon, and a thermoplastic binding agent of nitrocotton, dibutyl phthalate and diphenylamine is extruded around a copper wire to form the core.
