[Class 103 (ii)] A luggage carrier for a motor car having a saloon body comprises a member which spans across the roof opening and is permanently or detachably secured to the roof in such a manner that the luggage can be carried within the roof opening. As shown in Fig. 1, the luggage carrier comprises a framework including transverse bars 1, 2 hinged at 6 and adapted to grip the edges 3 of the roof opening. The gripping means 7, 8 may have the lower member 8 pivoted or fixed to the bars 1, 2 and may be lined with felt, rubber, &c. The hinge 6 may be locked by a pivoted link on the member 1 engaging a pin on the member 2. The transverse bars 1, 2 may be integral and the carrier is then locked in position by the pivoted member 8 or they may be telescopic for adjustment to openings of various widths. In a further modification the luggage carrier is adapted to be permanently secured in position across the opening and on the underside of the roof, whereby the sliding roof can be opened and closed with the carrier in position, the sliding roof being opened to accommodate the luggage.
