[Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group II] A liquid de-incrustant, &c. is supplied from a reservoir 2 to boiler feed-water, &c. in a locomotive tender, &c., 1 through a distribution reservoir 7 which communicates with the supply reservoir 2 through a ball-valve controlled opening 5 and with the tender 1 through a duct 14, sealed chamber 11 and discharge pipe 13. The tender is fitted with an air lock 9 which extends to the bottom thereof, where it is provided with a communicating opening 10, and has a pipe 8 leading from its upper end to the top of the distributor 7, the arrangement being such that the level of liquid in the distributor will normally be the same as that in the reservoir 2, but, upon the tender being filled, the resultant increased air pressure in the lock 9 acting upon the surface of the liquid in the distributor will first close the ball-valve in the opening 5 and then cause the liquid to be discharged through the pipe 13. The tender 1 and supply reservoir 2 are both open to atmospheric pressure, also the chamber 11 through a pipe 15 leading to the former, and as the water level in the tender falls so the pressure in the vessel 9 tends to return to atmospheric, whereupon the valve in the opening 5 lifts to permit the distributor 7 to be refilled and ready to function when the tender is to be filled again. In a modified construction the distributor 7 is mounted within the top of the tender and includes a float for controlling a valve in an opening between said distributor and supply reservoir.
