594,678. Locks or latches. PARKES & SONS, Ltd., J., FRYER, E. C., and BUTTER, F. J. March 29, 1945, No. 7904. [Class 44] A rim or flush lock or latch, having its handle or one of its handles already attached, is inserted by threading a handle through a bole in the lock, or through a plate covering a flush lock, and has extending from its inner face a screw or boss which either fills the hole or receives a rose or door plate which is threaded over the handle to cover the hole. When a socket is employed it may be formed on the lock, the handle shank passing through it, whereas a boss may be formed on the handle shank itself. A rim lock B has a cap plate b having on its outer face an integral socket b1 through which passes the shank of a lever handle C, on which is a boss or collar c. A hole a in the door, and a hole d in a plate D secured to or forming part of the door, are large enough for the handle C to pass through and to allow lateral displacement of the lock. A rose E has an internal diameter sufficient to permit its threading over the handle and its fitting over the boss c and an external diameter sufficient to permit its covering the hole d. Projecting inwardly from the rim of the rose are two oppositely disposed lugs e, slotted at e1 to leave overhanging parts e2 which engage under the edges of their respective notches d1 in the edge of the hole d, when the lock is displaced to the right. Instead of lugs, the rose may have an internal screw thread engaging an external thread on the socket b1 ; the lock is not displaced in this case. The rose may be replaced by a door plate. Instead of the handle,C a knob capable of going through the hole in the door may be used. For use with a flush lock the socket bl is made much shorter.
