[Class 84] [Also in Group XXVI] A pulsator for milking-machines has a smaller and a larger flexible diaphragm 5, 6 linked together by a bolt 51 with washers 48, 49, 50 and adjustably linked through a universal coupling 55a with a screw-spindle 52 secured to a sliding valve-plate 54 which connects a suction pipe 28 &c. alternately with ports 29 and 30 which are connected at 34 &c. to the teat-cups, and are also connected through openings 35, 36 to the middle and inner compartments 3, 2 of three compartments 2, 3, 4 separated by the flexible diaphragms 5, 6, the inner and outer compartments 2, 4 being interconnected by a passageway with a throttlevalve adjusted at 46, so that e.g. suction in the compartment 2, holding the valve-stem 52 at the right-hand end of its stroke becomes equalized in the compartment 4, and then, because of the larger diameter of the diaphragm 6, moves the valve stem 52 to reverse the suction connections quickly. The valve-stem 52 projects at 52b for starting the pulsator by hand if it has stopped in a neutral position.
