606,375. Screw and ring gauges. STAINTON, D. E. Jan. 14, 1946, No. 1202. [Class 106 (ii)] A combined screw and plain ring gauge comprises a pair of gauging elements or plates 1, 2 mounted for relative parallel displacement at right angles to opposed faces 3, 4 having twopart gauging recesses 15, 16, the said elements or plates being mounted upon a pair of guide rods 7, 8 secured to one element 2, said rods having sliding engagement with guiding apertures in the other element 1, spring means 10 being provided for separating the plates 1, 2, movement of which to the gauging position being effected by pressure applied to the outer edges of the plates. The apertures 15, 16 are threaded to gauge the Full Form and the Not Go Effective Diameter and the bushes 17 and 18 are plain ring gauges for the Major Diameter Go and Not Go, but the functions of the complete gauging apertures 17, 18 and the twopart gauging apertures 15, 16 may be interchanged and if desired one of the two-part gauging apertures 15, 16 may be replaced by another inserted bush. A pair of rotatable washers 20 having cam surfaces 21 which cooperate with balls 22 on the plate 1 form adjustable inward limit stops. In another embodiment, not shown, the guide rods are clamped to the ends of plate 2 and engage V- shaped grooves in the plate 1. If one inward limit stop is provided, it may be attached to a knurled rim beside which there are graduations readable against a fixed zero. The coiled springs 10 may be replaced by one leaf spring anchored at its ends to the two guide rods and at its centre to the plate 2. If desired, the inward limit stops may be non-adjustable taking the form of V-shaped projections on the plate 2, or they may take the form of adjustable eccentric discs 47, Fig. 9. In order to aid in ejecting a work-piece from any two-part gauging aperture, a small metal plunger acting directly or through fluid pressure on the work-piece may be provided.
