Artificially dehydrated forage crops are treated with water below 100 DEG C. and redried to substantially their original state of dryness in order to re-actuate and to render more readily assimulated the nutrient constituents which were inactivated by the dehydration. Grasses, alfalfa, clover and legunnes are referred to. In an example 3 1/2 parts of water are used with one part of grass at 60 DEG C. and allowed to stand for 5 hours then redried at 80-90 DEG C. Grass treated in this manner and untreated grass were fed to chicks with a complex basal ration. In other examples grass was treated with water at 80 DEG C. for periods from 5 minutes to 24 hours, and also subjected to the action of a proteolytic enzyme.ALSO:Artificially dehydrated forage crops, for human consumption are treated with water below 100 DEG C., and dried to substantially their original state of dryness in order to re-activate and to render more readily assimilable the nutrient constituents which were inactivated by the dehydration.
