[Class 68 (i)] In a pick mounting for a coal-cutting machine, the pick 1 has a cutting-point at each end and a transverse recess 1b centrally of its back, the pick fitting in a recess 2c in the head 2a of a holder provided with a shank 2b which enters a recess in the pick block 3, and the recess 2c having a transverse rib 2e adapted to engage the recess in the pick ; a forwardly projecting boss 2f on the holder has an aperture 2g in which is inserted a wedge 2h engaging the face of the pick, the lower end of the wedge bearing against the pick block. The pick holder may be secured by a transverse pin 4 engaging a groove in the shank 2b, the pin having a cut-away part 4a, whereby rotation of the pin frees the shank; other securing means may be used, or the shank may be tapered and engage a tapered hole in the pick box.
