621,098. Electric vulcanizers. GEKIERE, R., and BRANDENBURG, A. Feb. 21, 1947, No. 5071. '[Class 39(iii)] An electrically-heated thermostaticallycontrolled vulcanizer comprises a screwthreaded rod D having a pressure member DSP1/SP in the shape of a disc at one end, the rod D passing freely through a support C and carrying a nut DSP2/SP. A locking device, e.g. a leaf spring F, enables the rod D to be held in any position. The supporting arm C is slidably attached to a column B on the other end of which is secured an arm A, the free end of which terminates in two V-shaped forks ASP3/SP which support an electric heater. H, ribs on the heater engaging grooves in the forks. Recesses in the inner walls HSP2/SP of the heater H house mica-insulated heating elements R which are arranged in parallel. A mould, (not shown), carrying the work-piece is supported in the arms of the heater H. A housing S covers a mercury switch and an electro-magnet, which, in conjunction with a thermometer T, act as a thermostat. In operation, the spring F is displaced to allow rod D to fall until pressure member D' contacts the work-piece. The nut DSP2/SP is rotated up the rod D till it contacts the underface of support C, when further rotation forces the rod D downwards until the work-piece is securely clamped in the mould, in which position it is heated.
