Adhesive in desired quantities is applied to paper or cardboard by a device consisting of a vertically-adjustable tank for the adhesive, the tank having as its base a perforated tube, the supply of adhesive from which is controlled by two rods sliding inside the tube and acting as valves opening or closing the desired number of holes. In operation sheets of paper are placed in contact with the base of the tank, the top sheet removed smeared, whereupon the tank automatically drops on to the next sheet.
