[Class 123(i)] A low level water alarm for a steam boiler comprises a chamber E which has lower and upper passages eSP1/SP, fSP1/SP communicating respectively with the water and steam spaces of the boiler through the usual gauge C and houses a float e2 connected by levers LSP2/SP, LSP1/SP to a valve V which normally closes the inlet port fSP2/SP of a steam whistle H, fitted to the cover F of the chamber, but opens same when the level in the chamber falls below a predetermined minimum. As shown, both levers are hinged to the interior of the float chamber. A modification, in which the steam and water inlets fSP1/SP, eSP1/SP communicate directly with the top and bottom fittings A, B of the gauge C, and three hinged levers are provided between the float eSP2/SP and valve V, is also described.
