633,526. Steady rests; chucks;. soldering; jointing. WHEWAY, F. O. Nov. 14, 1947, No. 30318. [Classes 83 (ii), 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] Making chucks and steady rests.-A collet or steady rest comprises a hollow cylindrical body part a which for a portion of its length from one end is formed with longitudinal slits g, and a plurality of inserts b of titanium carbide or other metal which are secured within the body part by brazing or other easily fusible metal, or by thermosetting or other plastic material. In assembling the body part and inserts, the rear end of the body part is held in a jig e carrying a wire f which extends through the body part, and the inserts are placed around the wire. The inserts are then secured to the body part after which the slits g are formed. Alternatively, the slits may be formed initially. Specifications 540,959 and 563,397 are referred to.
