[Class 133] An extensible rim or band for handbags, Dorothy bags, purses, pouches and like containers comprises a lazytongs formed into a closed member of circular, elliptical or other shape, which can be expanded or contracted by appropriately expanding or closing together the links 1 of the lazytongs by means of a ring 9. A lid 4 is provided for closing the upper end of the rim or band when contracted. The lazytongs has two sets of links 1 and the links of one set which are parallel to one another, or equally spaced selected links of this set of links, are extended at their lower ends below their pivots to form attachments to which the bag is secured by means of a hole or holes 3 (Fig. 1) or by detachable press-stud means 10, 11 (Fig. 3). By means of a flange 5 of the lid 4 which can engage over and under some or all of the upper pivot pins 6 the rim or band is closed in a detachable fashion. Some or all of the pivot pins 6 may have bulbous heads so as more readily to cooperate with the flange 5 as lid-fastening means. The lid may be held closed by means of a catch. It is hinged to the lazytongs by having a link 7 bent to provide a loop or eye for the hinge pin 8. A receptacle may be attached to the top of the lid to act as a powder compact or other cosmetic or like container.
