[Class 9 (i)] A projectile comprises a casing 1, whose rear enlarged guiding section 8 is reduced during its travel through the gun barrel, and a deformable filling 2 which is centred in the rear part of the section 8, a space 9 being left in front of this part between the filling and casing, and the arrangement being such that during the deformation of the projectile to the final calibre only the rearward part of the filling 2 is subjected to deformation. In Figs. 2a and 2b, which show respectively the original and final shape of a projectile, a filling 2 of soft iron is fitted with a plug 4 of lead and is separated from the casing 1 by a brass ring 3, the ring having grooves 5 into which the material of the casing is pressed during deformation. A short cylindrical section v assists in centring the filling. In modifications the ring is dispensed with and in another modification, Fig. 1a, there is neither a plug nor a ring.
