[Class 4] [Also in Groups X and XXXVIII] Indicating - equipment associated with a flying target and adapted to indicate the result of firing during anti-aricraft practice comprises indicating means controlled by a sound-responsive device arranged in or upon the flying target or towed near it. In the embodiment shown a stream-lined container 1, Fig. 1, is towed behind an aeroplane and in turn tows a sleeve or other target. When a shot passes near the target it produces a pressurewave which enters slots 12 and impinges on a corrugated diaphragm 11. The air in a funnelshaped chamber 2 is therefore compressed and lifts a spring-loaded valve 5 from an electrical contact 7. In the towing aircraft is located a thyratron 18, Fig. 4, whose negative grid-bias is supplied over a conductor 22 in the tow-rope, contact 7, valve 5, and return conductor 23 in the tow-rope. When, therefore, the valve 5 lifts in response to a nearby shot, the negative bias is removed from the thyratron 18 which fires, energizing an anode relay 26a. A lamp 28 is lighted and a counting device 29 operated over contacts 26c and a sluggish relay 27a is energized over 26b. When relay 27a operates contacts 27b quench the thyratron 18 and release relay 26a. The lamp 28 remains energized at 27c, until, as a result of contacts 26b now being open, sluggish relay 27a releases and the circuit is restored to normal. The lamp 28 may be mounted on the container 1 or on the target, and lighted by means of further conductors in the tow-rope. The impulse received from a shot may be utilized to send out a radio signal or a smoke signal. The zone in which a shot is effective to raise the valve 5 may be altered by adjusting its spring loading, the rigidity of membrane 11 or the size of the slots 12.
