[Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] In a method of manufacturing a cam co-operating with a follower and yielding a continuous acceleration diagram of the follower, the working contour of the cam is formed by a grinding wheel connected to a flexible tension member which cooperates with a guiding surface of a pattern, the guiding surface being spaced uniformly from the evolute of the working contour of the cam. The cam V, Fig. 5. is formed by means of a grinding wheel B the axis of which is fixed to one end of a steel tape p, the other end of which is fixed between parts TSP1/SP, TSP2/SP of a pattern, the cam being rigidly connected to the parts TSP1/SP, TSP2/SP. The guiding surfaces KSP1/SP, KSP2/SP of the parts TSP1/SP, TSP2/SP are spaced uniformly from the evolute of the cam contour by a distance equal to half the thickness of the tape p. The cam and parts T TSP2/SP are mounted on a lever N pivoted to a fixed axis Q and are oscillated about a point O by means or a crank AS and connecting rod AD. By means of this mechanism the point of contact M of the grinding wheel with the cam moves along the desired path. The tape is tensioned by means of a spring Z. In a modification, Fig. 6, a roller-follower cam VSP2/SP is formed with the aid of a master cam VSP1/SP formed as described in connection with Fig. 5. The cams are rotated at the same angular velocity and have the centre lines of their lobes inclined at the same angle to the plane containing the cam axes. A spring-pressed slide block E engages the cam V, and a grinding wheel B engages the cam VSP2/SP, the grinding wheel and slide block being mounted on a common slide H which is moved, by means of the master cam, in a direction perpendicular to the cam axes.
