Improvements in or relating to the production of dialkoxythiophosphoryl chlorides

Dialkoxythiophosphoryl chlorides are prepared by reacting bis-(dialkoxythiophosphoryl)-disulphides with sulphuryl chloride. The starting materials can be made by the action of a halogen or sulphuryl chloride on 0.0-dialkyl-dithiophosphoric acids or their salts, or alternatively the dialkoxy-thiophosphoryl chlorides can be obtained directly from the acids or their salts by treatment with more than one molecular proportion of sulphuryl chloride. The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert solvent, e.g. carbon tetrachloride, not above room temperature and preferably around 0 DEG C. The alkoxy group preferably contains not more than 3 carbon atoms, and examples are given of the production of the dimethoxy-, diethoxy-and di-isopropoxycompounds.
