'[Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXII] The tool box of a planing or like machine is relieved from the work during the return stroke by a solenoid controlled by a switch 14 which is operated by a current-carrying rod 13 mounted on the reciprocating part of the machine and in contact with a current-carrying roller 16 that actuates the switch. A spring-loaded roller 20 presses the rod 13 against the grooved roller 16 and a disc 23 carrying one spring-loaded contact 32 of the switch on an arm 31 is pressed into frictional engagement with the roller 16 by an adjustable spring 29. When the planing head begins its return stroke, the rod rotates the roller 16 and the latter, through the frictional engagement, momentarily rotates the disc 23, until the contact 32-35 is made and the contact spring 37 is compressed. Current then passes through the disc, roller and rod, to energize the solenoid arid rotate the tool box round its pivot. When the working stroke begins, the disc 23 is rotated momentarily in the opposite direction to move the arm 31 until its adjusting screw 34 contacts an insulated block 26, the breaking of contacts 32-35 then de-energizing the solenoid.
