[Class 81(ii)] Hair drying apparatus comprises a helmet supplied with air which successively passes over a dehydrating mass capable of being regenerated in situ and through a heating enclosure before being passed to the hair. As shown, Fig. 1, air is supplied by the blower V to the helmet K via the dehydrating agent C, e.g. silica gel, and an electric heater E the agent C being packed in a container Q whose sides are perforate but whose top and bottom are impervious to air. The container is itself mounted within an airtight container B, an air inlet A being provided in its underside. For regenerating the dehydrating agent the four-way cock X is turned to the position shown in Fig. 2, the air from the blower then passing through the heating enclosure before traversing the mass C. The moisture laden air is exhausted to the atmosphere through the pipe W. A byepass Y, controlled by a valve and calibrated spring, is fitted between the inlet and exhaust of the blower V such that when the usable output of the blower is cut down, i.e. the output pressure increases, the valve opens allowing the blower to take air from its exhaust side thereby cutting down its power consumption. In a modification the blower and dehydrating unit shown in Fig. 1 serves a series of drying helmets each of which is provided with a shut-off cock and visual control regulator. The visual control regulators are set at an optimum operating pressure thus enabling the air supply to the blower to be varied in accordance with the number of helmets in use. The blower may be replaced by a venturi nozzle supplied with compressed air. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the helmets are shown fitted with blowers which aspirate air through a dehydrating mass only, the electric heater elements being switched on only when required to regenerate the agent C. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
