536,480. Dyeing textiles. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. Oct. 12, 1939, Nos. 13277/40 and 13278/40. Convention dates, Dec. 21, 1938, and Sept. 27, 1939. Divided out of 535,582. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 15, 1940]. [Class 15 (ii)] The fastness to light of dyeings or prints obtained with the use of water-soluble dyestuffs, and subjected to an after-treatment with an aqueous solution of a condensation product of formaldehyde with a compound containing nitrogen, is improved by a treatment with an aqueous solution of a copper compound, effected simultaneously with or subsequently to the treatment with the condensation product. Specified compounds containing nitrogen are melamine, guanidine. guanylurea, urea and dicyandiamide (cf. Specifications 429,209 and 482,345) and specified copper compounds are cupric sulphate, nitrate, chloride, formate and acetate. In examples, (1) a cotton or linen fabric, dyed with Direct sky blue, green shade, Direct blue RW, Direct brown M, Chlorantine fast brown BRLL, Chlorantine fast violet 2RLL, or Chlorantine fast grey 2BLL, rinsed and pressed or centrifuged, is padded while still moist with an aqueous solution at room temperature containing formic acid, a water-soluble hydrophobic condensation product from melamine (1 mol.) and formaldehyde (6 mols.), and cupric chloride, formate or acetate, and the goods are dried and heated for ¢ minute at 130‹C. ; (2) a mixed fabric of wool and viscose artificial silk staple fibre, dyed with Chlorantine fast brown BRLL, rinsed and centrifuged, is impregnated with an aqueous solution at room temperature containing formic acid, a condensation product from dicyandiamide (2 mols.) and formaldehyde (3 mols.) and cupric chloride, and the goods are rinsed and heated for 1 hour at 90‹C.; (3) a cotton fabric, dyed with Chlorantine fast orange TGLL, Chlorantine fast bordeaux B. or Chlorantinefast blue 3RLL, is impregnated with an aqueous solution at room temperature containing ammonium phosphate, dimethylolurea and cupric chloride and dried at 110‹C. Specification 535,582 as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the use in example (1) of the dyestuffs Chlorantine fast yellow 2GL and Chlorantine fast orange T5RLL. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
