Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXV] A universal joint seal comprises a plurality of segmental spherical annular members superimposed about a stud projecting from the joint housing, a deformable plastic gasket providing a seal between the said members and the stud, and an annular cap member superimposed on the deformable gasket and the segmented members to retain them in sealed relationship. A stud 12 rotatably and tiltably mounted in a housing 10 and projecting therefrom is embraced by the inner rim 32a of an annular metal stamping 32 of spherical contour telescoped over and slidable on a similar but larger diameter annular metal stamping 30 slidable on the rounded open end of the housing 10. A deformable plastic gasket 36 embraces the stud and is compressed between the smaller stamping 32 and an annular metal cap 34. During initial tilting of the stud 12 the smaller stamping 32 slides over the larger 30 until the stud contacts an inturned flange 30a on the inner periphery of the larger stamping which then slides over the housing 10.
