An electron discharge tube comprises an annular 'cathode 2, Fig. 1, and means for forming the electrons into an annular beam which passes through a flat cylindrical cavity resonator 1 to generate oscillations therein, the output being taken via parallel plates 6, 7, also apertured to permit passage of the beam, to a concentric line 8, 9. In the reflex klystron illustrated 4 and 5 are annular beam-forming electrodes and 3 is the reflector electrode. The annular gaps in the resonator walls and in plates 6, 7 are bridged at four points by strips, Fig. 2 (not shown), to hold the structure together, and metal block 10 and insulating block 11 insure correct spacing of the parts.
