675,499. Rotary conveyers. HAYES, E. April 25, 1950. [April 29, 1949] No. 10134/50. Class 78 (i.). [Also in Group XXIII] Relates to a rotary conveyer in a machine for washing drinking glasses, crockery, and/or cutlery (see Group XXIII]). As shown in Fig. 3. a tray 69 provided with parallel grid member 71 to carry articles is mounted for rotary movement in a bowl 54 on a shaft 35. Secured to the rear portion of the bowl is a substantially semi-cylindrical housing 57 on which is mounted a transparent plastic cowling 76 of substantially semi-cylindrical shape, the ends of the cowling and the hood 79 thereof forming an opening to the enclosure. This opening is closed by a transparent plastic member 82 which passes through a slot in the shaft 35. The shaft 35 is rotatable through 180 degrees so that the enclosure opening is again closed by the member 82, by a motor 17, Fig. 1. The shaft of the motor 17 7 drives a pulley 21 which drives a vertical shaft 24 through a gearbox 23. Mounted on the shaft 24 is a disc 26 provided with a "push-in" cam 27 and a "pull-out" cam 28, Fig. 3 (not shown), which co-operate with a roller 29 on one end of a reciprocatory arm 30 supported at its other end for sliding movement in a bearing 31. The arm 30 has a rack portion 33, engaging with a pinion 34 fixed to the shaft 35 so that the reciprocation of the arm causes the shaft 35 and tray 69 to be rotated through 180 degrees The motor 17 also drives a pulley 36 connected to a pump. The pump is connected to a rotary washing cycle control valve 43. The rotary valve stem 48 is driven from the shaft 24 by sprockets and a chain 50. The valve stem 48 is connected at its upper end to an electric relay 83 which is arranged so that as soon as the valve stem rotates the circuit of the motor is kept closed, although a push button for starting the motor has been released, until the stem has made a complete revolution when the motor circuit is opened but the circuit of a motor 74 of an air fan 73 is closed. An electric relay 84 is associated with the motor 74 and is adapted to break the circuit thereof after a predetermined but preferably regulable time. In operation dirty glasses are placed inverted on the front portion of the tray 69. The push button is then pressed momentarily to cause the motor 17 to rotate and operate the push-in cam 27 to rotate the tray through 180 degrees and then to cause the circuit to be held so that the washing operation can take place inside the enclosure after the cessation of movement of the tray. After washing of the glasses the motor 17 is stopped and the fan 73 is started so as to cause the drying of the glasses. The fan 73 then stops and the entire apparatus is at rest. On pushing the push button again the motor 17 causes the tray to be brought back through 180 degrees by the cam 28 so that the clean glasses come to the front of the machine for removal. At the same time further glasses to be washed which have been placed on the other part of the tray enter the enclosure and the operation is repeated.
