PICT:0695291/IV (a)/1 A wet-spinning machine for the manufacture of a sheet of artificial threads is of the type having two storeys, the top storey containing a plurality of spinning nozzles aligned along the length of the machine, together with spinning pumps and spinning baths, and the lower storey containing means for forming and advancing the sheet of threads to the after-treatment devices; and is characterized in that the thread advancing means of the lower storey is arranged to advance the sheet of threads in a direction longitudinally of the machine. As shown, two identical machines are placed back-to-back. The threads from a plurality of nozzles 14 aligned longitudinally of the machine and mounted on the upper storey 8 are led upwardly over a common roller 3 and then downwardly through a shaft 16 to the lower storey 9 where they are passed over a plurality of inclined rollers 4, one to each thread or pair of threads, then over an inclined and adjustably mounted roller 5 common to all the threads and finally over a horizontal roller 6 mounted at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the machine. Pump shafts 10 and 11 are mounted at different levels, the pumps driven by one shaft alternating with those driven by the other. Sash windows 26, 27 are provided for both storeys, ventilation being effected through suction tube 29. During spinning-in the threads fall down shaft 16 into a trough 17 where they accumulate until they are eventually laid over roller 4. In a modification, the threads led to the lower storey are first passed over a horizontal roller mounted in the longitudinal direction of the machine, then over a plurality of vertically and adjustably mounted rollers, one to each thread, and finally over a common horizontal roller mounted at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the machine.
