A two-part quadrant band for a selfacting spinning mule consists of a rope 1 arranged to wind on and off a scroll 2 and a chain 3 to run over a back-shaft pulley 12. The rope 1 and chain 3 are connected together by a coupling 7 having a split sleeve 8 to receive the rope and a lug 9 to engage the chain. In order to guide the chain 3, the pulley 12 is grooved to accommodate it.
