698,131. Seats; resilent suspensions. TANSAD CHAIR CO. (1931), Ltd. April 15, 1952 [April 26, 1951] , No. 9717/51. Classes 52(i) and 52(ii) In a rocking chair the seat and/or the back rest is resiliently coupled with the chair frame by means of a torsion spring strip which permits of a limited controlled rocking motion. The chair frame is provided with a cradle c to the centre portion cSP2/SP of which is secured by bolt bSP2/SP a torsion spring strip b the ends of which are secured to angle irons a. These angle irons. to which the seat is secured, have trunnions e rotatable in bearings in the parts cSP1/SP of the cradle c. Arm rests are adapted to be bolted to the parts cSP3/SP of the cradle c. The back rest f is carried by two uprights h the lower ends of which are provided with trunnions j accommodated in bosses cSP4/SP of the cradle c. The ends of torsion strip g are bolted to the uprights h while the centre or middle of the strap g is held in a slotted adjustable clamping block h accommodated in an extension cSP5/SP of the cradle c. The block h and the torsion spring g may be rotatably adjusted to vary the tension, and consequently the angle of the back rest, by means of a set screw l operating in a fixed nut m.
