摘要
Aqueous dispersions of cellulose glycollic acid or carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, from which insoluble coatings, sizings, adhesives, films, webs, sheets and strips may be made, are obtained by acidifying an aqueous solution of a soluble salt, e.g. the sodium, potassium, lithium or ammonium salt, of the cellulose glycollic acid or carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose to form a gelatinous flock of the free ether-acid, the flock then being washed, and then dispersed, by milling, in water to form a colloidal dispersion. Suitable acids are aqueous chloracetic, hydrochloric and sulphuric. Preferably, the aqueous solution is extruded into an acid bath to form gelatinous rods of the free ether-acid, the rods then being washed, ground and dispersed in water. To the dispersion fillers, humectants and plasticizers, e.g. kaolin, bentonite, fuller's earth, aldehydes such as glyoxal, salts such as aluminium chloride, glycerine, sorbitol and ethylene glycol may be added. Numerous examples are given.
