A process for producing metallic gloss print effects of any desired colour and resistant to rubbing and washing, on textile and other materials, such as leather, paper and the like
A process for producing metallic gloss print effects of any desired colour and resistant to rubbing and washing, on textile and other materials, such as leather, paper and the like
Textiles, leather, paper and the like, are printed with a composition containing a metal powder and a synthetic resin pre-condensate thickened with methyl cellulose and then overprinted with a transparent resin precondensate which does not contain a metal powder. The precondensate may be finally hardened by heating. The composition for printing or overprinting may contain a dye. In examples, (1) cotton is printed with an aqueous composition containing aluminium bronze powder, melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate and methyl cellulose, followed by overprinting with a similar composition but without the metal powder, after which the material is dried, heated, and dyed with Chlorantine Light Blue 2GL to give a silver print on a blue ground; (2) a black cotton fabric is printed with a composition as in (1), overprinted with an aqueous composition containing melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate, methyl cellulose and Chlorantine Light Green BLL, dried, calendered, and heated to give a silver-green print on a black ground; and (3) a white cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous composition containing gold bronze powder, urea-formaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate, methyl cellulose and acetic acid, overprinted, partly overlapping, with a similar composition without the metal powder and acid, dried, calendered, heated and dyed with Sirius Light Red 4 BL to give a glossy gold and glossy red print on a dull red ground.ALSO:Textiles, leather, paper and the like, are printed with a thickened composition containing a metal powder and a synthetic resin pre-condensate and then overprinted with a transparent resin precondensate which does not contain a metal powder. The precondensate may be fully hardened by heating. The composition for printing or overprinting may contain a dye, or the printed fabric may be subsequently dyed in which process the printed parts of the fabric may or may not be dyed according to the nature of the dye selected. The second imprint may extend beyond the pattern of the first imprint whereby further effects are obtained as some parts of the fabric will then carry the second imprint only. Before hardening the resin, the material may be rolled to homogenize the surface. In examples, (1) cotton is printed with an aqueous composition containing aluminium bronze powder, melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate and methyl cellulose, followed by overprinting with a similar composition but without the metal powder, after which the material is dried, heated, and dyed with Chlorantine Light Blue 2GL to give a silver print on a blue ground; (2) a black cotton fabric is printed with a composition as in (1), overprinted with an aqueous composition containing melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate, methyl cellulose and Chlorantine Light Green BLL, dried, calendered, and heated to give a silver-green print on a black ground; and (3) a white cotton fabric is printed with an aqueous composition containing gold bronze powder, ureaformaldehyde precondensate, ammonium thiocyanate, methyl cellulose and acetic acid, overprinted, partly overlapping, with a similar composition without the metal powder and acid, dried, calendered, heated and dyed with Sirius Light Red 4BL to give a glossy gold and glossy red print on a dull red ground.
