Class 106 (1) In a device for adding and subtracting binary series-mode electric impulse trains representing terms A, B, comprising four inlets Ea, Eb, Ec, T for the A-train, B-train, carry-over impulses and timing impulses respectively, two outlets respectively for the impulse train representing the result D(AŒB) and for carry-over impulses which are fed back with suitable delay to the associated inlet, and computing means including interconnected "and" or "gate" members, "or" or " buffer members and impulse regenerators, the interconnections for producing the result are the same for addition as for subtraction, but the interconnections for producing the carry-over impulses are changed by commutating means under control of a switching voltage or current. The device shown comprises "and " and " or " rectifier circuits, and " regenerators 10-13, and the applied series-made trains have a positive impulse for " 1" and no impulse for " 0." Each regenerator produces a positive impulse on its lower or upper line 40-43 or 30-33 according to whether or not it receives a positive imput, from circuit 028, 029, terminal Ea or Es, coinciding, with a digit-period-defining timing pulse T,. The " or " and " and" imput circuits 028, 029 receive the carry train, obtained from a further regenerator 14 and delayed one digit period in element 15, and the B-train; terminal Es receives a positive signal for subtraction. The output lines 30-33, 40-43, are connected as shown to " and " circuits 080-084, of which 080-082 are used in combination with a mixing " or " circuit 085 to form the result train D, and 083 or 084 (for addition or subtraction respectively) in combination with " or " circuit 086, which a!so receives the output on line 41, to form the carry train R. The "and" and " or " circuits may be formed by electronic valves or relay circuits instead of rectifiers. In a modification, the functions of 10-12 are performed by a single regenerator., number-representing pulses being staggered by elements providing delays of less than a digit period, and gates 080-084 being controlled by the timing pulses. The regenerator 13 is replaced by an electronic trigger circuit. In a further modification, 13 is omitted and addition / subtraction control effected by a switch, e.g. relayoperated or electronic; in the output or regenerator 12. A circuit for the regenerators is given including a pentode having transformers in its anode and cathode circuits.
