719,268. Jet propulsion plant. REDER, O. July 4, 1952 [July 31, 1951], No. 16848/52. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XII] A jet propulsion unit for aerial or submarine use comprises a reaction chamber formed between upper and lower air- or hydro-foil surfaces 10, 11 and located between limiting transverse walls of a stabilizing element such as a wing or fin 12; said surfaces being movable outwardly as a result of an increase in pressure due to heat introduced to air or fluid therein, by internal combustion or any known chemical exothermic process. The surfaces 10, 11 are pivoted to the said transverse walls by links 14, 15. The chamber, Fig. 2, is supplied with fuel through pipes 17, 18 and forwardly directed nozzles 19, and incorporates a flameholder 25 and precombustion chamber 22 having a sparking plug 21. In a modification, Fig. 3, the chamber is supplied with fuel through pipes 17, 18 and an atomizing nozzle 20 and incorporates a flameholder 25 and guide vanes 28, 30. The unit may be applied to the blade of a helicopter, a propeller or to a control or stabilizing surface of an aircraft or submarine. The inlet and outlet areas of the unit may be controlled either independently of each other or in a predetermined relation in order to regulate the thrust of said unit.
