739,955. Ventilation plant. WITKAMP, L. M. March 5, 1954, No. 6574/54. Class 137. An installation for ventilating, and conditioning, air in cabins and other confined spaces comprises a blower 1 which draws fresh air through louvres 4 into a cone 2 having a filter 3 and forces it through a discharge pipe 5 and branch pipes 6, 7 to conduits 8, only one of which is shown as being mounted near the ceiling of a corridor 9, each conduit 8 supplying the fresh air to a number of pipes 10, each of which opens out into a diffuser 11 in a small compartment 17 mounted near the ceiling of a cabin such as 13. Each compartment contains a fan 12 which draws air from the cabin through louvres 15 and returns it with the fresh air through louvres 14, an amount of vitiated air, equivalent to the fresh air supplied by the pipe 10, being discharged through a screen 16 situated, e.g., in the cabin door. The direction of flow of air into the cabin can be controlled by varying the inclination of the louvres 14, and the amount of recirculated air can be controlled by the adjustment of the louvres 15, or alterna-, tively by controlling the speed of the fan 12. A heater 18 may be incorporated in the core 2, and a heater 19 may be installed in each compartment 17 for the individual control of the temperature in each cabin. In an alternative arrangement the louvres 15 are arranged in two parts, one part being arranged to direct the recirculated air over the heater 19, and the other part passing it direct to the fan 12 without flushing the heater 19. In another arrangement a cooler is also incorporated in the cone 2 as well as individual coolers in the compartments 17, the coolers being either installed as separate units distinct from their associated heaters, or being incorporated as single combination elements with their respective heaters.
