Improvements in or relating to the protection of cellulose or regenerated cellulose fibres against attack by micro-organisms or moulds

Cellulose or regenerated cellulose fibres are impregnated with a product obtained by condensing cyanamide or a polymer thereof with a polyethylene polyamine at an elevated temperature with loss of ammonia, or an alkylation, aralkylation or formylation derivative thereof and a bactericidal or fungicidal phenol. The treated fibres have increased resistance to attach by micro-organisms and moulds. A complex compound may be obtained on mixing the condensate and the phenol, and this may be used in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion. In an example chloro-o-cyclohexyl phenol is added to an aqueous solution of a condensate of diethylenetriamine and dicyandiamide. The product is dissolved in alcohol and the solution diluted with warm water to give an emulsion which is used to impregnate cotton.
