In a fibre opening, cleaning or lap-forming machine, material is conveyed pneumatically through a curved duct 17 the inner side of which is bounded by a rotary suction cage 18, so that dust and light particles are drawn by suction through cage 18 whilst the fibres are constrained to follow the outer wall 19 of the duct to be discharged at 20.
