摘要
749,659. Artificial respiration appliances. ESPLEN, J. R. Oct. 13, 1954 [Oct. 14, 1953], No. 28259/53. Class 81(2). In artificial respiration apparatus the build-up and reduction of pressure in a conduit con. necting a gas supply to the lungs is controlled by an exhaust valve actuated by a pressure responsive bellows, bladder or the like. In the apparatus shown diagrammatically in the figure, air or oxygen is introduced through a pipe 20 and passes through a flexible tube 17 to the patient. It also passes through a pipe 36 and non-return valve 35 to a bellows 32 which, as it becomes inflated, tilts a chamber 22 until a ball 29 rolls off a flap 28 and opens an exhaust port 26. While the mask and chamber 16 are being exhausted to atmosphere through this port, the pressure in the bellows escapes through a pipe 37 and adjustable pinch cock 38. When the bellows is sufficiently deflated the ball 29 rolls back and closes the exhaust valve, so that the cycle is repeated. In the practical form of the apparatus the tilting of the chamber 22 is controlled by a spring of adjustable tension or the exhaust valve is actuated by spring or gravity controlled toggle mechanism, either directly or electrically. The bellows maybe replaced by a bladder or diaphragm.
