Class 85 In a mine shaft the walls are supported by annular frames 1 braced by cage guide supporting spreaders 3 the ends of each of which are mounted on the associated frame by means of shoes which each comprise a plate 18, secured to the frame 1 by clamps 14, 15, and a plate 11, provided with vertical spreader embracing cheeks 6, which shoe is rotatably mounted on plate 18 by a pivot 12. The spreader is secured to cheeks 6 by a wedge 7 engaged beneath a bolt 8 which interconnects the plates.
