752,087. Endless elevators; step-by-step conveyers. BLYTHE, J. C., and CROOK, C. Oct. 22, 1954 [Oct. 6, 1953], No. 27385/53. Class 78 (1). An apparatus for loading brick-bearing pallets 5 onto the tines 48 of a truck 45, comprises a reciprocating conveyer 7a, and an endless elevating conveyer 22a which is operated intermittently, and in timed relation with conveyer 7, so that pairs of rests 25 are loaded and raised successively until a stack of predetermined height is formed, whereafter movement of the truck to a position in which tines 48 are located beneath the stacked pallets causes the rests 25 to lower and deposit the pallets on the tines. Return movement of the truck onto the turntable 51 causes the rests 25 to return into alignment with the pallet rests 6. The Specification describes a system of electrical switches for automatically effecting the above sequence of operation, and for pushing the extruded clay 2 through a wire cutter 4 onto the pallets when they are in position A. The conveyer 22a consists of a pair of endless chains 22, 23 (Fig. 2) supporting rests 25 and driven synchronously by a motor 26 through worm gearing 27-30. Starting of motor 26 is controlled by a switch 33 (Fig. 1) which is operated in timed relation with the movements of conveyer 7a, whilst stopping is effected at each half revolution of shaft 24 by the engagement of one of the cams 37a with a switch 35. These cams also operate a switch 36 which, when operated with the truck wheels 46 closing switch 38, effects reverse movement of the motor to cause the lowering of rests 25. A safety switch 41 immobilizes the whole apparatus in the event of a pallet being raised into engagement therewith. Step-by-step conveyers.-A pair of bars 7 are raised and lowered by rollers 8, 9, operated by a cam 15, and are reciprocated by a pusher 21 connected by a rod 20 with a crank 19 secured to the cam shaft 16.
