摘要
Sulphur is recovered from gas containing hydrogen sulphide by mixing the gas with air or other oxygen-containing gas, burning the mixture in a furnace to produce a mixture of sulphur, hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide, cooling the gaseous mixture from e.g. 1500-2200 DEG F. to, e.g. 450 DEG F. in a waste heat boiler, scrubbing it with liquid sulphur to recover sulphur therefrom, heating the scrubbed gas in a separate furnace from, e.g. 270-280 DEG F. to, e.g. 400-450 DEG F., passing the heated gas through a catalyst to produce further sulphur by the interaction of the sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide, cooling the reacted gas by indirect heat exchange with water subsequently fed to the waste heat boiler from, e.g. 550-600 DEG F. to, e.g. 450 DEG F., and scrubbing the cooled gas with liquid sulphur dioxide to recover sulphur therefrom. The catalyst may be disposed in two beds with an intermediate water cooling coil, the gas being cooled from 585 to 500 DEG F. after leaving the first bed and leaving the second bed at 525 DEG F. The catalyst may be activated bauxite.
