Class 92 A Bren gun is modified for firing U.S.A.- type cartridges of 0.30 inch calibre which are longer than the British 0.303 cartridge.. Figs. 2 and 4 relate to the unmodified Bren gun and Figs. 1 and 3 show the modified form. The modifications comprise:- (1) Bore and rifling of barrel made suitable for 0.30 inch cartridge; (2) Gas block 1 moved forward to position near the foresight in order to obtain a pressure in the gas cylinder substantially the same as that in the unmodified gun; (3) Consequential extention 2n of gas cylinder; (4) Lug on extractor modified to engage throat of U.S.A.-type cartridge; (5) Loading aperture extended to take end of larger magazine for U.S.A.-type cart- .ridges and feeding and ejection spaces similarly extended. The following parts are unmodified:- the breech block, the piston group, the firing pin and trigger group, the butt group and the members for locking and unlocking the various groups.
