A resin composition comprises a thermosetting synthetic resin and a filler of one or more of barium sulphate, coke or synthetic graphite, the filler having a low internal porosity and fine microstructure and a highly isometric grain structure such that the specific gravity increases by less than 5% when the particle diameter is reduced from 0.2 to 0.06 mm. Specified resins are from a mononuclear monohydric phenol and an aldehyde; a furfural resin; an aldehyde-furfural resin; a phenolaldehyde-furfural resin; or furfuryl alcohol.
