A lay figure for displaying garments comprises an upright structure provided with flexible, non-resilient extensions which can be spread or retracted to show off the contours of a skirt, each extension having a helical loop between its ends. As shown, plastic-sheathed skirt-supporting wires 18 have bent-over ends seated in grooves in a disc 13 mounted on a telescopic standard 1, the ends being clamped by a washer 17 and wing nut 12 which also clamp a horizontal portion 9 of an upper structure formed by a strip 4 of transparent plastic and representing the waist 5, shoulders 7, neck 8 and bust 26 of a human figure. The wires 18 are coiled at 20 the diameter of the coil being increased or decreased and the wires spread or retracted to suit the skirt displayed. The upper structure is angularly adjustable at the ball joint 28 and adjustable arm wires 22 have bent-over ends secured to the strip 4 by grooved brackets 23, clamps, or snap-in fasteners.
